Around the village through the seasons

** Romantic ** Beautiful ** Natural Setting ** Tranquillity **

The village tennis court (open in the summer only) and petanque court are opposite the house by the river. There is an outdoor activity area as well.

The local country roads and tracks across the fields are excellent for walking or cycling (if you take your own bicycles). The surrounding countryside is lovely, with a rolling landscape and a seemingly endless sky. There are sweeping views from the top of the hills across valleys. If anyone ever told you that Pas de Calais is flat and boring, you will soon discover how wrong they were as you walk up the hill out of the village!

There is a network of marked paths and circular walking routes out of the village of various lengths that give good views over the surrounding countryside and the valley. There are guidebooks and maps for these in The Farmhouse.

Our local church was rebuilt in 1646 after the area was devastated during the siege of Thérouanne and is worth a visit. Services are irregular, as Delettes shares a priest with other villages, so check with our housekeeper, Anne-Marie Bruge, if you would like to worship there.

There is a good bar in the village with a selection of beers and its own petanque court, follow the path past the petanque court along the river and cross it by the old mill. The back entrance to the bar is about 50 yards in front of you. The main entrance is on the main road.

Henry VIII fought 'The Battle of the Spurs' just up the road from the Farmhouse (immortalised by the painting in Hampton Court Palace and at the Tower of London), and then successfully besieged what was then the local walled city of Thérouanne. The current Thérouanne is the village outside the old city walls. It has a town museum, the old city, finally and completely destroyed after the siege of 1553, is an archaeological site which can be visited and sits above the current Thérouanne.
